Sorry we won’t be having our Pop-Up Long Beach Free Store at First Fridays in Bixby Knolls this month. The Teachers Association of Long Beach will be getting ready for their annual family picnic the next day so we won’t be in their space this month. See you next month!

Join us for our next presentation by Black Water Rising as we examine rising levels of UV radiation and the heat effects in the "concrete jungle."

In Our City will be the first of an ongoing presentation series that aims to bring forward information on local issues in climate change, toxicant exposure in the home, and access to non-profit resources within Southern California. Please join us Saturday, September 14, 2019 for our first program, 6:30-7:15pm at the Artisan Work Lab, 12907 Hadley Street, Whittier, CA 90601. Snacks will be provided!
In Our City is brought to you by Acelia Larios and Alejandro Fabian. Acelia graduated in 2016 with a degree in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley. In 2019 she continued on to UC Davis where she studied Environmental Toxicology and worked with local communities to discuss toxic exposure in their cities.
Alejandro graduated in 2016 from UC Berkeley with a degree in Bioanthropology and continued on to UC Davis where he studied the affects of pollutants in environmental systems.
This program started with the deep desire to create a space where people could come together to discuss the important issues facing our communities. We hope to see you there September 14th!
This is a collaboration between Black Water Rising and Catalyst Network of Communities.

I've got some bad news. Although we've been excited for the Human Library this Saturday, June 22nd, earlier this morning my father passed away. He had been in the hospital ICU for the past 3 months and I had been there with him really 4-5 times per week. We explored the possibility of hosting the event without me but we realize we don't have the capacity to pull it off.
Unfortunately, we've come to the conclusion that we need to cancel (or postpone, we'll see) the Human Library scheduled for this Saturday. I really appreciate your support for our work in our community and I hope you understand. I apologize for the inconvenience if you had been planning to come.
Regards,
Eric Leocadio
Human Library Organizer

However, if you send email to freestore@gocatalyst.org in advance, we may be able to work with you to make other accommodations.
Donations are welcome! You may bring up to 1 or 2 bags or boxes of items - whatever you are able to safely carry by yourself up the stairs in one trip. We accept clothing, household items, cookware, toys, small appliances, and other items that can fit in our small shop. We cannot accept furniture or bulky items at this time (yes, even if you can carry it by yourself in one trip!).
Everyone (with free membership) is welcome to shop the free store at no cost and may choose 2 items. March 4th is an UNLIMITED CLOTHING DAY so that means all shoppers may choose any number of clothing items. Donating is not required in order to shop. If you bring in a donation, you may choose an extra item to receive. Supporting Members may also choose an additional item and can shop from the Supporting Members section. There is also an Unlimited Items area where everyone can choose to receive without limit.
To sign up, send email to volunteer@gocatalyst.org.
Join us for our first community potluck prior to the re-opening of the Whittier Free Store for 2018! The potluck will be from 12:00pm - 3:00pm in the downstairs courtyard area. Bring any dish or food item (if you are able) that you would like to share. Meet the staff and volunteers for Catalyst and the Whittier Free Store. Learn more about Catalyst.
If you would like to attend, please RSVP at freestore@gocatalyst.org.
The Whittier Free Store is located at 12907 Hadley Street (at Comstock), Whittier, CA 90601 in Uptown Whittier.
The Whittier Free Store will be open from 1:00pm - 5:00pm on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month (refer to calendar for specific dates). Become a member of the Whittier Free Store; membership is free and only involves a brief orientation to learn how we do things. Since the free store is located upstairs, we apologize that it is not accessible for individuals with certain disabilities. However, if you send email to freestore@gocatalyst.org in advance, we may be able to work with you to make other accommodations.
